Liturgical Dance (Praise & Worship Dancing)

This elective will teach students the meaning, history, terminology, and ministry (purpose) of liturgical dance.  Students will recognize that liturgical dance is biblically based and is a combination of various dance forms such as modern, ballet, jazz, and African.  Through guidance, students will choreograph dance presentations that will visually reveal their testimonies and/or bible stories. Students are expected to come to class with a positive attitude, open mind, and enthusiasm to participate.  

 

Students will cover the following concepts: 

 

  1. Meaning/purpose of liturgical dance,

  2. The history of liturgical dance,

  3. Biblical references of dance,

  4. Appropriate attire,

  5. Proper dance techniques,

  6. Movement (locomotion and axial),

  7. Facial Expressions,

  8. Timing,

  9. Spatial awareness,

  10. Research of various chorographers, and

  11. Dancing in the spirit.

Classes are designed to provide hand-on instructions on basic computer hardware components and software applications.  Students are provided with the essential knowledge and skills needed to be active, life-long learner in a technology intensive environment.  Emphasis is placed on extending and reinforcing touch keying skills while providing experiences for learning word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia, and telecommunication application.  The curriculum is designed to form the foundation for continuous learning and to deliver students who are capable of competing, in an ever changing global and technological society.
